How to convert CSV to VCF

Three steps to import contacts from a spreadsheet into any device or app.

1
Upload your CSV contacts file

Drag your .csv file into the converter. CSVShift reads the column headers and automatically maps standard fields like Name, Email, Phone, Company, Address and Website. No manual configuration needed for most exports.

2
Review the column mapping

Check that each CSV column is correctly assigned to the right vCard field. If your spreadsheet uses custom column names — for example "Mobile" instead of "Phone" — adjust the dropdown for that field in the mapping panel.

3
Download and import the VCF

Click Convert and download the .vcf file. All contacts are packed into a single file. Import it into iPhone Contacts, Android, Gmail, Outlook, Apple Mail or any CRM that accepts vCard format.

What is a VCF file and why does it matter?

Understanding the vCard standard before converting your contacts.

A VCF file (Virtual Contact File), also known as a vCard, is the universal standard for storing and exchanging contact information. It is the format used when you share a contact via AirDrop, email or WhatsApp — behind the scenes, the device generates a .vcf file.

A single .vcf file can contain one contact or thousands of contacts — which makes it ideal for bulk imports. When you export your Gmail contacts, Apple Contacts or LinkedIn connections, you get a .vcf file. When you want to import a spreadsheet of contacts into a phone or CRM, you need to convert CSV to VCF first.

CSVShift generates vCard 3.0 files — the version supported by all major platforms including iOS, Android, Gmail, Outlook, Apple Mail, HubSpot and Salesforce. Each contact is correctly structured with BEGIN:VCARD and END:VCARD markers following the RFC 6350 specification.

When do you need to convert CSV to VCF?

Real scenarios where CSV to vCard conversion solves the problem.

Importing contacts into iPhone or Android

Phones cannot import CSV files directly. Converting your contacts spreadsheet to VCF lets you import hundreds of contacts into iOS Contacts or Android Contacts in a single step — either by emailing the file or uploading via iCloud or Google Contacts.

Migrating contacts to Gmail or Outlook

Google Contacts and Microsoft Outlook both support VCF import. If you have a client list, event attendees or team directory in a CSV spreadsheet, converting to VCF is the fastest way to add them all to your email client.

CRM and sales team imports

Many CRM platforms (HubSpot, Pipedrive, Zoho) accept VCF alongside CSV. When the CRM's CSV import fails to map fields correctly, converting to VCF first — where fields are explicitly labeled — often resolves the mismatch.

Event and conference contact management

Conference organizers often receive attendee lists as CSV exports from registration platforms. Converting to VCF allows the entire team to import the contacts at once, without manually entering each person.

Your contacts stay on
your device. Always.

Contact data is sensitive — names, phone numbers, email addresses. CSVShift processes the entire CSV to VCF conversion in your browser. Your file is never uploaded to any server, never logged, and never stored. Close the tab and it is gone completely.

This is not a promise — it is how the tool works technically. There is no backend server receiving your data. Open your browser's Network inspector during conversion and you will see zero data transmitted.

Frequently asked questions
Common questions about converting CSV to VCF and importing contacts.
How do I convert a CSV file to VCF?
Upload your CSV contacts file above. CSVShift auto-maps columns like Name, Email and Phone to the correct vCard fields. Review the mapping, click Convert, and download the .vcf file. No software or signup required.
What is a VCF file?
A VCF file (Virtual Contact File), also called a vCard, is the standard format for storing contact information. It contains structured data fields like name, phone, email and address. It is the format phones use when you share a contact via AirDrop, email or WhatsApp, and it is supported by virtually all email clients, smartphones and CRM systems.
How do I import a VCF file into iPhone?
Email the .vcf file to your iPhone email address and open it on the device — iOS will prompt you to add all contacts. Alternatively, sign into iCloud.com on a computer, go to Contacts, and use the import option to upload the .vcf file directly.
How do I convert CSV to vCard in Excel?
Excel has no built-in CSV to vCard conversion. Use CSVShift — upload your CSV (exported directly from Excel as .csv), map the columns, and download the .vcf in seconds. It handles any column structure regardless of how the Excel file was organized.
Can I convert bulk contacts from CSV to VCF?
Yes. CSVShift has no row limit. Upload a CSV with 10,000 contacts and all of them will be converted to a single .vcf file. The file can then be imported into Gmail, Outlook, or a phone in one step.
Is my contact data safe when converting CSV to VCF online?
Yes. The entire conversion runs in your browser. Your CSV file is read locally using the JavaScript File API and is never sent to any server. Contact data — names, phone numbers, email addresses — never leaves your device at any point during or after the conversion.
